Mexico: Strange Animal Kills and Exsanguinates Prey

** Three attacks in one week in Chihuahua, Mexico**

The first incident was recorded in the early hours of 16 February with 12 dead sheep and others with severe wounds.

The affected party stated that his animals were in a pen with a two meter tall fence, which natural predators are unable to penetrate. Even so, the strange animal entered and attacked the sheep without eating them, relieving them of their blood and leaving marks suggesting a jaw that can open up to 20 centimeters. There were also scratches and puncture marks from long fangs in evidence. Lambs had their heads crushed.

The second attack occurred during the first hours of Monday, 21 February on the property of Mr. Roberto Villalobos, with 20 dead sheep.

The third attack took place again on Mr. Villalobos’s property.

“The custodian saw what was happening and unleashed a Great Dane to fight the animal, which he was able to see in the shadows. But the dog fled after receiving a push from the assailant,” said a startled Roberto Villalobos.

Local residents are fearful of going out in the evening, saying that for a week now they have been victimized by attacks from an unknown animal whose prints they are unable to recognize.

The place where the events occurred is Estación de Terrazas, a rural areal located 40 km from Chihuahua’s state capital.

DATES OF THE ATTACKS:

Wednesday, 16 February – 12 dead sheep, 10 wounded
Monday, 21 February – 20 dead sheep, 25 injured
Friday, 25 February – 15 dead sheep

[Note from Prof. Ana Luisa Cid: “It should be noted that similar attacks were also reported in Tapachula, Chiapas (southeastern Mexico) on 22 February”]

Puerto Rico: A UFO Over Mayaguez?

Source: Primera Hora (newspaper)
Date: 26 February 2011

Puerto Rico: A UFO Over Mayaguez?

“I didn’t believe in flying saucers until I came to Puerto Rico and saw one.”

This was the statement made by Dionisio Grullón, a native of Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic and a resident of Brooklyn, New York. Grullón visited Mayaguez to spend the Christmas holidays with his wife Gilda’s family.

He says that on 7 January 2011 he was looking out of the balcony of the family home in the Liceo Arriba district of Mayaguez due to the intense heat. It was then that he established visual contact with a UFO (flying saucer) that was in the sky for several hours.

“Seeing is believing. I’d never seen anything like it, and didn’t believe in it at all. I heard people talking about it, but I didn’t believe in the subject,” said the man, accompanied by his brother-in-law, Rafael Bonilla, who also claims having seen the unidentified flying object.

After seeing it with his own two eyes, what he understands was “a flying saucer” leaves no doubt in his mind about the phenomenon’s existence. “Now I believe.”

“It was a rather large light that appeared at 0400 hours and didn’t vanish until around seven thirty, some three and a half hours later, after daybreak,” Grullón added.

The man claims that when [the object] began moving upward in the sky, half an hour elapsed before it vanished completely.

“It looked like the lights placed at construction sites – very bright, illuminating the entire balcony, and it startled me. At first I was frightened, but I became more confident and even looked for a small camera and took a picture of it,” Grullón explained about the photos.

He says that it wasn’t until around 0700, when tired of looking up at the sky, the object began to vanish very slowly.

“As I began to take photos of it, it focused on me. Later it changed, and as I kept taking photos, it focused on me again. But it remained fixed. It neither rose nor descended, only when it finally vanished slowly,” he recalled.

At first, Grullón admitted that he lost his nerve and was scared, but later felt confident. “I was calm, since I could see it wasn’t doing me any harm. It only looked at me and I felt completely at ease.”

According to the experiencer, his life has changed completely, as he can now attest to the “existence of flying saucers”, something that never crossed his mind and even made him laugh when the subject was discussed. As soon as he returns to Brooklyn in coming days, he intends to share the experience with others who told him that “flying saucers” did exist and whom he contradicted. “I’m going to develop these photos to show people that they do exist, so they’ll see, because I had to come to Puerto Rico to find out that it wasn’t a joke. In 50 years I’d never imagined I’d see something like it.” Grullón was a baggage handler at La Guardia Airport.

His brother-in-law, Rafael Bonilla, was also an eyewitness to Dionisio’s sighting and compared [the object’s altitude] with that of the Aerostat deployed in Lajas during the 1990s to monitor Puerto Rican airspace. “It looked like the Aerostat in Lajas, as seen in Mayaguez, but I wasn’t frightened. I’ve heard that UFOs appear in this area, although I’d never seen one.”

Spain: Remembering the Vilobí "Yeti"

Spain: Remembering the Vilobí "Yeti"
By Javier Resines

Forty three years ago, on February 26, 1968, a curious encounter occurred in the Catalonian municipality of Vilobí del Penedés, a little over than sixty kilometers from Barcelona.

U.S. author and journalist John A. Keel (of Mothman fame) included it in his book Strange Creatures from Time and Space El Enigma de las Extrañas Criaturas), published in 1987 by Editorial Mitre. Keel describes the experiences of some frightened children as they observed a sort of large apelike being in the environs of this community. What seemed at first a figment of boyish imagination acquired credibility when the creature was also reported by several adults in what appeared to be a Bigfoot "mini-flap" in the area.

According to the Arriba newspaper in the next day's issue (27 Feb '68): "The animal drank water from a pond near the eyewitnesses' home. It fled, leaving a certain number of large footprints -- 40 centimeters long -- resembling those of a plantigrade. These footprints match those of the description offered by motorist Roberto Juver, who claimed having encountered an animal with a large, hairy body and long arms several days before near Hostalrich. It crossed the road in front of him, walking with a tired gait."

The newspaper reported that neither local zoos nor circuses had reported any missing animals that could have caused the confusion. A measure of panic permeated the area and massive searches were conducted, and were fruitless, as usual.

Argentina: Police Escorted by UFO (2001)

Argentina: Policemen Escorted by a UFO (2001)
By Paco Martínez, Patricio Parente, Juan Pablo González

“In the measure that we shifted from low-to-high beams on the pick-up truck, the object did the very same. It accompanied us for a distance, and our speed was minimal. And this object was always with us, occasionally ascending and descending...”

The town of Cachi is the provincial seat and it is located at the feet of the Nevado de Cachi (6100 meters) offering a singularly beautiful landscape tinted by the Colonial style that predominates the otherwise simple architecture of the town.

It was there, in the Cachi sheriff’s office, that officers Ramiro Corimayo and Sergeant Humberto Flores are on duty. Both men are eyewitnesses to an event that might be unusual for some, but is frequent in the area ( which abounds in UFO reports).

Their experience took place on 9 May 2001 on the segment of Route 33 that goes from Cachi to the city of Salta, in the vicinity of the Recta de Tin Tin (the “straight segment” of the road) that crosses Los Cardones National Park for 18 kilometers at an elevation of 3000 meters above sea level. It is only 26 kilometers distant from Cachi.

The approximate number of witnesses is 5. Information regarding the number varies because one of the aforementioned protagonists, plus another officer who refused to give his identity or rank, were transporting two detainees whose personal information could not be released. Since the event was made known in the press, the central office of the Salta Police was forced to prepare an official report that was requested by our group from the police station itself. However, a series of interdictions regarding location and authorization made obtaining this information difficult, especially because on the day that the report was requested, the local police was engaged in riot control due to the social disturbance that our country was undergoing at the time. Therefore, our request was not honored.

That was the last day of our stay in the vicinity, and we were unable to overcome the obstacle of securing a report that could represent a firm and seldom documented stance by law enforcement regarding a UFO case.

As this article was written, a formal instrument was presented to secure the report and make it public to our readers, since we believe that it would determine the names of all the parties involved and the event’s description, which is well-deserved, in their own words.

For the time being, the number of five (witnesses) is correct and not fewer. The other police officer had rank, but his desire not to make a statement is respectable. In fact, the most active part of the case, in any way, corresponds to Corimayo and Flores, who have furnished substantial details on the case, without the absence of other information affecting the central description of the experience in the least.

Having made these clarifications, we move on to the case.

An Experience in Tin Tin

Riding in the police cruiser shown in the photograph, the persons aboard were arranged as follows: Sgt. Flores was at the wheel, with the unnamed officer beside him. Behind the driver’s seat was officer Corimayo. Beside him was a woman (allegedly accused of a crime) and in the back, which was covered by a tarp to ward off the nocturnal chill, was at least one more person.

They entered the Agua de los Loros curve after 0400 in the morning, approximately, as they were due in Salta at 0700 hours. As they prepared to enter the “Recta de Tin Tin” segment, they noticed a luminous dot in the distance, much larger than a star.

“We drove along Route 33,” says Corimayo, “and once were in the Recta, where [the sign] for the Los Cardones National Park is located, toward the east, more or less around Cerros Tirados, which are some 20-30 kilometers away, Flores says to me: “Look, it’s a farol (evil light).”

Officer Corimayo detected the luminous dot at Flores’s indication and recalled the oft-mentioned faroles that tend to appear to travelers at night. The considerable mentions of these objects made by people leads them to look at the object fixedly, because neither man had hitherto run into a “farol

Flores, in order to draw the strange light’s attention, turned on the police pickup truck’s beacons. The law enforcement officer’s position regarding the comments of their fellow residents is reinforced, as these lights are believed to respond to signs made by travelers.

What they did not imagine is that the response would be so immediate and shocking.

“He turned on the beacons and the thing was beside us in a matter of seconds. We were driving along and the thing got on our left.”

The object made a swift movement, covering several kilometers in an instant, placing itself at a distance no greater than 400 meters from the pickup truck and at an altitude of no more than 40 meters of the ground. “That’s when we realized it wasn’t a farol,” Corimayo remarked.

The object’s size was much larger than expected (several meters in diameter) although it was hard to come up with an exact figure.

The iridescent object was predominantly spherical, but with a highly luminous main body, making it difficult to specify greater morphological complexities. What was notable is that it was surrounded by other very bright lights – green, red and violet – which according to the policemen, could be compared to disco lights.

“The object’s lights were always on. It was like a Christmas tree, intermittent.”

“In the measure that we shifted from low-to-high beams on the pick-up truck, the object did the very same. It accompanied us for a distance, and our speed was minimal. And this object was always with us, occasionally ascending and descending...”

Throughout the 18 kilometer length of the straight segment, the police vehicle’s speed at no point exceeded 30 kilometers an hour due to the attention given by the protagonists to the encounter. Corimayo notes that they were basically traveling at a “walking speed”, and that this enabled them to see structural details, and the movements of the phenomenon, which kept a regular and steady distance.

“I figure that it was larger than a truck,” says the officer, cautioning that the measure wasn’t exact due to distance.

Regarding a question during our interview on the police officers’ personal position on the phenomenon, we must make their conclusions on the display of activity clear. Flores, and especially Corimayo, say the following: “I think that the (object) acted according to our provocations, because on turning on the squad car’s lights, it did the same. We turned off the lights and it did the same, but not the white light, just the colored lights surrounding it. In other words, we turned out the beacons and they also turned on the contour area where the colors were emitted.”

“It was like playing a game with them. They responded in kind.”

We inquired whether they had any doubts about playing a game, an “interaction” that could have jeopardized their safety. “No,” says Corimayo, “ that was exactly what we were doing.”

According to the story, it is clear that party invited to play the game of questions and answers was the ring of colored lights surrounding the anomaly. The lights appeared to extend to suggest a slightly elliptical shape to the main source of light.

The protagonists’ conduct had been overall serene. However, the most restless party was Sgt. Flores. There had been a nearly provocative attitude on the policemen’s part by repeating the luminous signals and even some words and gestures that were aimed at the object. They do not specifically mention it, but they have suggested making gestures, shouting and even showing defiance upon seeing that there was no danger. The object however, appeared to respond with changes and alterations to its luminous structure that cannot be attributed to casual synchronicity, according to them.

The Most Intense Moment

As soon as they realized that the end of the straight segment was at hand, Flores made a disquieting calculation. If it followed the course, parallel to the road, the object would reach the curve facing Los Cajoncillos, where the paved road comes to an end, turning into a dirt path. At that point, the phenomenon would cross in front of them and block the road.

And so it happened. The object crossed in front of them.

“...we weren’t thinking. When it happened suddenly, we were scared, first because we saw it at the side of the hill,” says Flores. I felt that our vehicle’s lights dimmed, because I never dimmed them. Later on, I threw myself onto the shoulder, because we were afraid that the object would land with our engine paralyzed.”

No sooner had they entered the curve, where the dirt road starts, that the object halted and the electrical interference began. The pickup truck was left on the road’s right shoulder no more than 100 meters from the light.

Flores and Corimayo descended from the car. It was then that they saw the object in all its glory. It was slightly oval, its size easily surpassed the road’s width, making it greater than ten or fifteen meters.

They noticed a slight pulsing within the luminous figure, a beating of the surrounding lights that hinted at a subtle modification of sphere to ellipse, “like something beating”.
Without any possibility of leaving the area, they were overcome by the sight. They could not determine if the object had landed, given they way it projected its light. The brightness extended no less than 100 meters around, casting its light on them. Moreover, just watching it made their eyes burn.

The main light was white, and the colored ones twinkled intermittently, making it seem as though flashes of color dominated the perimeter, quickly changing to another tone “as though it were a rainbow”. They were unable to pick up any odors, sounds or significant changes in temperature.

“It was like wanting to look at the sun’s structure, and you can’t. We got out of the vehicle to see if some noise could be heard, but nothing.”

The phenomenon’s striking beauty and its irradiation dominated the entire field of vision, and barely made visible any additional details to the ones already described. It remained there for five minutes until it made a graceful move to the right, remaining no less than 700 meters from the witnesses.

“As I left the car lights on, once the object pulled away, the headlights came on by themselves. At that moment I told Officer Corimayo that we should return to Cachi. The object ascended by remained there, over the mountains, and the road becomes difficult around Cuesta del Obispo. We were afraid that it would come close again on the downward road.”

The road ahead would lead them through the sinuous complexities of the descent through Cuesta del Obispo, over mountain cliffs and rift valleys. But the officers decided to continue their journey to fulfill the mission entrusted to them by the police.

“The object remained to the right of us,” Corimayo remarks, “some six hundred meters. We continued to Piedra del Molino, and the road begins to go down. That’s where it becomes Cuesta del Obispo. Up to there, the object was on our right, but from the moment we descended into Valle Encantado, I saw it above us, overhead. That is to say, I had to put my head out the window to see it. I saw it much higher up and smaller. After that, the fog on the downhill road became very dense and we lost it from sight. We stopped seeing it right in Valle Encantado.”

Corimayo adds something about the moment in which the object departed from the road: “It took off, how should I say...like a shooting star. As intense as a lightning bolt, tilted to the right, toward the West. There it went up and down. It escorted us a little bit further, maybe some 600-700 meters.”

“At that time I asked the sergeant: What do we do? Do we stay put? We’re going to have to go on because we’re expected early in Salta. Flores was saying we should stay until it became less dark.”

A while after they stopped seeing it, possibly half an hour, the witnesses began to feel some dizziness, headache and intermittent nausea that they attributed to the powerful light they had seen for such a long time. According to their description, these symptoms were passing. They had refreshments on the road and were able to continue to the city of Salta with nearly an hour’s delay. These symptoms were not medically treated, and therefore, there are no records to evaluate.

The reached Salta around 0815 hours, over an hour late.

The police officers state that the sighting -- from its beginning until the object vanished from sight – took approximately an hour and a half . This is based on following the story, knowing the road, determining the landmark moments of the experience...and entirely coherent and feasible time period, bearing in mind the terrain and distance involved.

Spain: The 1955 Tarifa Sea Monster Revisited
By Javier Resines

We've recovered this odd news item discovered during a survey of newspaper libraries. The ABC and La Vanguardia newspapers, among others, remarked on the manifestation of this monster in 1955, a news item that transcended merely local information to occupy the front pages of the great national newspapers. We are transcribing the article as it was published in its day.

ABC, 08/16/1955:
"For five days now, and around twilight, an unknown marine animal unknown to this part of the Straits [of Gibraltar] has been appearing fifteen meters from the outer port of Corazón de Jesús. Some believe it is a giant octopus, while others think it belongs to another species, while those who have seen it describe it as a large entity with four or six arms on each side, which it uses to tread water as though swimming. If it hears any noise, it submerges vertically, leaving foam in the water. The strange creature has caused alarm among sailors who use rowboats for fishing in the area. This has caused them to seek other locations.

The curiosity aroused by the animal is such that many persons have seen this sea monster surfacing at sunset, visible from the port."

As is customary, the creature vanished one fine day without leaving a trace. Perhaps one of our readers may recall this event or have even been a witness to it. If so, and if interested, we would be happy to provide space in our blog for them to tell their story.

Mexico: Chupacabras Strikes in Tapachula (Chiapas)

* Animals were found near the Pemex facilities.
* Carcasses displayed tremendous bite marks; do not correspond to any known species.

The carcasses were found in the vicinity of the train station and the Pemex facilities, scattered on the ground and betraying impressive puncture marks that do not correspond to any animal endemic to the region or passing through, according to Amalia García.

The four sheep had their blood extracted -- apparently -- through a hole in their throats. According to local residents, this may constitute the reappearance of the Chupacabras.

At noon on Monday, February 21, phone calls from citizens alerted the authorities to the presence of the lifeless animals.

Authorities mentioned that none of the sheep had any blood left in their bodies, as it had been removed.

The discovery of the lifeless, exsanguinated sheep with holes in their throats caused curiosity-seekers to reach the conclusion that the legend of the Chupacabras should be taken up seriously once more. Twelve years have gone by without any reports on this phantasm, who was mentioned for the first time on May 1, 1999.

Argentina: A UFO Over Iguazu Falls?

Ariel Suarez in an exclusive interview with La Voz de las Cataratas described what he saw and recorded with his cell phone early Wednesday morning in the vicinity of the Santa Rosa district: a zigzagging object in the heavens that subsequently vanished.
Suarez, 29, was enjoying the warm evening with his girlfriend around 2 in the morning on Wednesday when they noticed a light moving in the sky. Reaching for his cell phone, he recorded the object, which changed colors and zigzagged. "The image lasted about a minute, and then it vanished in the sky as though something had absorbed it," Ariel told La Voz de las Cataratas.

His video clearly shows the object moving in the sky over Iguazú on a moonlight night. It can be seen on the La Voz news screen.

Believing in the existence or non-existence of life beyond our planet and visits from extraterrestrial entities goes transcends belief, skepticism and myth, as it requires serious scientific study. Specialists say that we must go beyond "watching tiny lights" or recording videos to an in-depth study of the phenomenon. "The UFO phenomenon has been manifesting itself for thousands or millions of years," said Marco Antonio Gomez Perez, a researcher of the subject, during the Foro OVNI Paranormal discussion held on 29 January 2011 in Mexico City by the Sociedad Mexicana de Filosofía Hermética.

The term unidentified flying object, better known by its acronym -- UFO -- refers to the sighting of a real or apparent flying object that cannot be identified by the observer and whose origin remains unknown following an investigation. UFOs are generally associated with flying saucers. While sightings of unusual aerial phenomena go back to antiquity, the term flying saucer was popularized in 1947 -- mistakenly, one could say.

Argentinean UFO Had X-Files Guest Spot

Source: El Dragón Invisible
Date: 02.18.11

Carlos Alberto Iurchuk's long-running website El Dragón Invisible features an interesting tidbit of news that is sure to delight enthusiasts of the overlap between ufology and science-fiction.

First the fact, then the fiction.

On February 18, 1975 a strange object remained motionless in the sky -- for about forty five minutes -- over Punta Cuevas near the city of Puerto Madryn in the Patagonian province of Chubut. The object eventually began moving westward until it vanished from sight. The haunting photo taken of this unknown object became a classic in UFO circles and may have graced the cover of a publication or two (I recall seeing it on an issue of "Tattler"). But as Carlos Iurchuk tells us, it also had the unusual distinction of being features on FOX TV's long-running X-Files series.

In episode 1x01 ("Deep Throat") FBI agents Mulder and Scully visit "Ellens AFB" in southwestern Idaho while investigating the case of Air Force test pilot Lt. Robert Budahas. They pay a visit to a diner called "The Flying Saucer" whose décor includes several UFO photos on the wall. The Puerto Madryn UFO is visible among these images.

Argentina: Air Force Makes Contact with the UFO Phenomenon

Argentina: Air Force Makes Contact with the UFO Phenomenon
By Jorge Nahum

The radar picked up an object of considerable size, flying from Rio Gallegos toward the north. The device is unable to determine its point of origin. But it flies without stopping. There is astonishment and disquiet. However, the decision in quick and unequivocal: two Mirage interceptors are scrambled from the Tandil Base to intercept the object...and they find that it is a weather balloon launched in Australia, winding up in Argentina's airspace.

More or less, this is the story told by Commodore Jorge Tealdi, press officer for the Argentinean Air Force (FAA) which decided in late 2010 to create a commission to investigate celestial phenomena that penetrate the nation's skies.

The incident he recalled took place several years ago, but it helps to explain the goals of this new commission. There was something strange in the air, an unknown object, and it was possible -- by specific actions -- to establish what it was. "The Argentinean Air Force's main mission is to safeguard Argentinean airspace, and we admit that our skies have cases involving objects or phenomena that cannot be explained. This does not necessarily mean that they are alien spacecraft, but they are indeed unidentified flying objects," explained Tealdi, a resident of Córdoba, born in Morteros, in a statement to Día a Día.

The new commission already has the authorization of the Ministry of Defense and will operate out of the Condor Building as the Comisión de Estudios de Fenómenos Aeroespaciales o Celestes (Aerospatial or Heavenly Phenomena Study Commission). Its members have not yet been appointed, but will include specialists in a variety of disciplines, such as meteorologists, air traffic controllers, pilots and radar experts. Collaborators will also be invited to participate -- Ufologists, for example -- under the command of military personnel.

"This is the first time that the Air Force makes a similar move. Based on sighting reports, we are going to create an official statistical base aimed a creating a sightings map, to know where we need to pay attention. The idea is to have the official Air Force website have a link to any reports and photos we may receive, and that also provides news regarding investigations," said Tealdi.

While the goal is to receive all possible information, he explained that "the experiences of a group of hikers at Mount Uritorco do not have the same weight as those fo a trained pilot flying an aircraft with instruments." He added: "And I say this respectfully, becaus we know that expectations are considerable. Many people send us their concerns, photos and videos and want us to provide an explanation immediately. We are in no position to provide rapid responses, but we can say that the decision to investigate has already been made."

Air safety. In June of last year, a Chinese airport interrupted its activities and cancelled flights for three hours due to a UFO manifestation. Its exact nature remains unknown. In this regard, Commodore Tealdi said: "In the history of Argentinean aviation, there has never been an aerial phenomenon that jeopardized air safety. With the creation of this investigative commission, the priority shall be to deal with cases that may affect this safety beyond any anomalies in the sky."

In the region, Brazil and Uruguay have already implemented commissions of this sort, and in South America, only Perú and Argentina have not opened their files regarding UFO phenomena. "We have nothing to hide and I have no evidence that there is classified or secret information. I repeat, these concerns are precisely [the reason] for the creation of an official statistical database, not only to satisfy general curioisty. We are also charged with guarding our airspace," stressed the military official.

Regarding the protocol to be followed by Air Force pilots in the event of a sighting, Tealdi explained that "a traditional procedure of alerting authorities" is followed.

Brazil's air force published a new regulation for pilots, should they have a "close encounter"

Regarding expectations in the new undertaking, Tealdi was enthusiastic and prudent all at once. "We cannot dismiss anything, or steer ourselves by preconceptions. We know that we are going to come across all manner of information, from natural phenomena such as light refraction and glow against the clouds, to space junk and burned out satellites. Not to mention jokes, such as tricked photos or hoaxed videos. There will be everything. I look at the sky all day and never saw anyting [unusual], and even so, I'm convinced that we have taken a major step."

Brazil: Sheep Mutilations in Ceará
By Paulo R. Poian

Sheep farmers from the communities of Espinhos and Pizunha, nearly five kilometers distant from the capital of the Cruz Municipality in the heartland of Ceará are facing a desperate situation: animals are being attacked at night and having their eyes ripped out. This information was submitted by agronomist Antonio dos Santos Oliveira Lima, who lives in the city. "Some sheep were found dead, but others were found alive the next day, mutilated. However, unable to survive, their owners were forced to put them down," says Oliveira Lima. Animals belonging mainly to Lucio and Joao Alferes and other regional livestock farmers were affected. "Some ascribe the attacks to ETs, others believe that predatory birds known as guaxinins are involved, and others blame wolf-men. There are even those who place the blame on people who remove the organs for black magic rituals."

According to the agronomist, over 40 animals have had their eyes removed. In a single night, 15 were mutilated in a pen without neighbors hearing any noise. "Upon examining the victims, one had the impression that the organs were removed with a very sharp blade, as there is no deformation of the affected area. For this reason, some believe that this cannot be the action of natural predators," adds Oliveira Lima. All incisions were made in an identical manner, with eyes being extracted in all cases.

The information we have received up to now was collected by the Centro Sobralense de Pesquisa Ufológica (CSPU - Sobralense UFO Research Center), by the Grupo Ufológico de Guarajuá (GUG) and conveyed by reports received at the Portal da Ufología Brasileira (www.ufo.com.br). The situation has reached such extremes that the Diario do Noreste newspaper published an article on 20 October [2010] on the mutilations, taking the sheep farmers' concerns seriously. "At daybreak, I found over a dozen sheep -- out of 16 I was raising -- attacked at once. Some of them were dead in a lagoon that's on my property. The only animal seen in the area was a puppy," said David Geraldo de Vasconcelos. "Other animals were also attacked in the same region."

This was among the most important cases that occurred in the year 1990. The news media provided ample coverage of the event, and it became known as the “flying house of Los Angeles” case. With over ten years having elapsed from the date of the occurrence, we shall look into the details of the story and learn more about the current situation of the Balboa family, who lived through the events. What happened to the ground research supposedly conducted where the UFO flew over? Have they had further UFO experiences?

We shall first examine the investigation conducted by Ovnivisión Chile only days after the event.

The time was 01:30 hours on April 16, 1990. Octavio del Tránsito Balboa Altamirano, 53, was sleeping peacefully alongside his family, consisting of sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. The night was dark and rainy. Suddenly, they were wakened by a noise, and in a matter of seconds, a very strange force had completely toppled the wooden dwelling.

This event occurred in Maria Dolores, an agricultural district some 10 kilometers northwest of the city of Los Angeles, in the 8th region of our country (Chile). The event received considerable coverage in the spoken and written press alike, but up to that point, the case, aside from being spectacular, has no connection to the UFO phenomenon. This, of course, is because there were other details involved: only 80 meters away from the site, Mrs. Marta Pino Rodriguez saw how a multicolored light approached the location menacingly. This prompted us to visit the location.

After having covered 513 kilometers, we reached the lovely city of Los Angeles, it was a chilly morning, but we wanted to reach the area as soon as possible. Finally, at 15:00 hours on April 19th, tape recorded in hand, I stepped for the first time in Lot #20 of Maria Dolores. The first thing I noticed was the loneliness and considerable vegetation of the area (characteristic of Southern Chile)

The Maria Dolores Airport was nearby. All day, aircraft from the domestic carriers LAN and LADECO took off and landed, something which no longer occurs nowadays. Seeing substantial witnesses here, I tried to enter the structure to interview the air traffic controllers on duty on April 16th, which I was not allowed to do. Strange, isn’t it?

But research must continue, and I penetrated the district in order to have a better look at the effects that were produced, and which were visible 3 days later. A considerable number of belongings from the Balboa’s family’s home were still scattered within a radius greater than 50 meters. A search of the bushes revealed, to my surprise, a completely twisted spoon, like an accordion. After interviewing the family, I learned that a number of metallic objects had vanished. Others were completely dehydrated: a clear example was a water tower installed next to the ruined house. It was demolished, and its 300 liter tanks were crushed like cheap beer cans.

During my survey I was able to see what had been the family garden before April 16. Completely dehydrated vegetables were in evidence: burned-out watermelons, uprooted trees. Another important aspect worthy of comment was the selective aspect of the phenomenon, since it only affected the Quillayes bushes and other shrubs, leaving the young pine trees unharmed. No effort at replanting the area had occurred as of this ground investigation, and we therefore do not know if the soil was affected. More on this later.

Mrs. Marta Pino was present at the site. She told us: “I was awake that Sunday night, because of the very strong winds. I looked through the window,” pointing at one visible in the front of her house, “ and that was when I saw a small star that got bigger. The light was multicolored and everything became as bright as day.”

Meanwhile, one of the direct victims, Marcos Balboa’s wife – Edith Parra – also told us: “It was like an approaching fireball. It was while I was looking at this that the house came down.”

Another noteworthy eyewitness account comes from Mr. Octavio Balboa, who remarked: “I don’t think it was a mere wind, no matter how strong, can burn things and topple homes. I think there’s something strange at work here. I’m 53 and a mere wind isn’t going to scare me. This is something strange, a greater force.”

Prior to being interviewed, the witnesses displayed a basic level of education and indicated that they were not readers of the UFO subject (given their manifestations, this statement is correct). All of the collected eyewitness accounts agree as to the time, date, atmospheric conditions, etc. They further agree on a very significant detail: the fact that the sound heard prior to the event was similar to that of a tractor engine.

Many theories were presented within the Chilean UFO landscape to explain the phenomenon. The case was dubbed as “The Flying House”, but the fact is that the house merely toppled.

Many researchers have presented their own opinions on the matter, as is the case with Rafael Vera Mege of the physics department of the University of Concepción (Chile) who told a national newspaper (Diaro La Tercera) that it was a “waterspout” – a theory that was discarded, since the term, when correctly used, describes “a column of water of vapor that rises from the sea” and which cannot be imagined in this case, since the event occurred only within the property of Octavio Balboa. Morover, some stated that it was “ball lightning” which, given its short duration (scant minutes only) cannot be imagined. We reconstructed the facts with the witnesses’ assistance, yielding a total of 18 minutes. That is to say, the light remained in that location for that entire time, completely dismissing the likelihood of ball lighting, since as I indicated, it has a lifespan of only a few minutes.

At the end of the on-site investigation, the affected parties (a total of 10) told me that the night preceding my visit, that is to say, April 18th, the strange light was seen again.

As can be expected, at least by those of us following the case, strange events continued occurring in southern Chile. Thus, on July 25 of that year (1990) in the town of Carelmapu, a locality some one hundred kilometers from Puerto Montt (Chile’s 10th Region) and in the Commune of Maullín, an unexplained tornado suddenly razed a considerable chunk of said community.

The events began around 16:40 hours. According to witnesses interviewed by Diario La Tercera, it only lasted a few minutes. One of these witnesses, small-scale fisherman Yoanis Papa Michail, described the situation on that July afternoon: “Everything was calm here. There was only some rain and cold, as is normal in winter, but the wind suddenly became a storm and the hail turned to large chunks of ice that fell with great force, making a loud noise against the houses.”

A detonation was heard after this, causing great panic among the five thousand residents of the town. We can see here a similarity with the Los Angeles case (April 1990), since a strange noise was also heard earlier. My purpose isn’t to find similarities, but after being involved for sometime in UFO research, I believe less and less in coincidences.

Moreover, Mrs. Gabriela Lemus described how her family endured the transit of this uncommon “tornado”: “There were five of us at home – my husband, myself and the three little girls, when we began hearing the hailstorm first, then the wind, and the house began to move. And I don’t know how, but suddenly everything was twisting around.” Readers may notice again the similarity between both cases, and if they don’t, I’ll refresh their memories: Octavio Balboa, the toppled house’s owner, said in this regard: “I’m very catholic. I’m scared. I don’t want to leave the house. Something strange is happening to me...it was a miracle, because you can see how the house was left topsy-turvy.”

Both houses were wrenched off their foundations by a force that the locals were unable to explain. We must remember that these are people accustomed to inclement weather, such as that of Southern Chile.

Spain: Revista AVALON Emerges in Print

Publisher and author Alberto Luis Fernández proudly announces the unveiling of the print version of his on-line magazine, AVALON, which deals in engimas and mysteries not only in the Iberian Peninsula but worldwide.

AVALON heralds an interesting new trend: e-zines appearing in print even as other magazines migrate to e-formats.

The age of electronic media has certainly allowed for greater diffusion of information. It benefitted INEXPLICATA, which started out as a stapled-wraps journal available only from Arcturus Books. AVALON, with its fine list of contributors, is one of the embers that may kick off a new blaze of paranormal publications. We wish them the best of luck in their new endeavor.

A UFO in Suco
By Raul Oscar Chaves

This photograph was taken in the month of October 2009 from Cerro Suco, located in the vicinty of the town bearing the same name.

Conrado Pinamonti, a resident of Suco who was touring the Cerro, detected the movement of an unidentified flying object, obtaining the image presented here. Upon downloading it from his camera, he noticed to his surprise that it displayed an imprecise shape: it was saucer-shaped and noticeably large.

The existence of several bag silos -- employed for harvest grain storage purposes, as a part of rural tasks -- can be seen under [the object]. These silos have measure between 70 and 90 meters.

Likewise, but performing a comparative analysis and employing the height of the larger trees visible, which are around 20 meters tall, it becomes possible to determine that the object in question is at an altitude of between 150/200 meters, with an approximate length of 70 meters.

Chile: UFO Declassification Begins

Chile: UFO Declassification Begins

According to Brazil’s UFO magazine, Chile’s Office of Civil Aeronautics handed over a number of videos or audiotapes of UFO events that occurred in its territory. This was done through the Comité de Estudios de Fenomenos Aereos Anómalos (CEFAA, by its Spanish acronym). The news item goes on to state that “out of a total of 183 cases, 12 of these lack an explanation.”

Chile appears to take the subject earnestly and is concerned over UFO manifestations: both the presence of these unknown quantities and their consequences.

Rodrigo Bravo, a Chilean military aviator and a correspondent for Brazil’s Revista UFO, said that the Chilean army has its own aviation corps and pilots, and it has demonstrated its “awareness and interaction with the subject of UFOs on various opportunities.”

Bravo cites a recent statement by the Chilean army: “There is no longer any need to deny or ignore the UFO situation. They represent a real and very serious threat. Today were are challenged by a complex phenomenon whose characteristics cannot be explained within natural terrestrial confines.”

The article reminds readers that in December 2010, the Argentinean Air Force (FAA) created its own Comité de Estudios de Fenómenos Aeroespaciales with a view toward delving deeper into UFO study, increasing the number of official agencies involved with UFO research in South America.

The report ends by reminding its readers that La Tercera TV has published an audio recording between the Chilean pilot and ground control, reporting an anomalous aerial phenomenon.

Chile: A Rectangular UFO With Humanoids (2008)

Chile: A Rectangular UFO with Humanoids (2008)
By Raul Gajardo Lepold

According to an eyewitness report from Mr. Segundo Hernán Godoy López, 50, married, an air conditioning technician, residing in Santiago, the capital city, he lived through the following experience in November 2008.

Around 18:30 hours, in broad daylight and with clear skies, he was working on the rooftop of a building on Alonso de Córdoba Street, in the vicinity of Avda. Americo Vespuccio, when he “felt the urge” to look upward toward the south. At that time he saw a large metallic object in motion. The object emitted no glow whatsoever and was dark grey in color. The witness estimated that it was 10 city blocks distant from him, approximately one kilometer away. [The object] moved slowly toward the northern district of the city, around Mt. Manquehue, toward the NE, in the direction of the Andean Range.

Object Description:

The front section was rectangular with two medium-sized rectangular windows being clearly visible. It wasn’t very tall, but it was long. [The witness] first perceived it as 1.5 meters, and as it grew closer, 100 meters. He estimated that its front was some 10 meters [tall] as well as its rear section. A square object could be made out. The rear section was serrated and uneven, although it had the same length. It tailed off into four peaks. No antennae or light sources were in evidence.

The windows were completely black. At the window on the right, he could see two humanoid figures down to their waistlines. They were thin, grey and featureless. The color of their bodies was very light grey and both creatures could be clearly seen in the rectangle, one beside the other. Their arms rested against the lower part of the frame, and they made clumsy sideways moves, as if looking for something in unison. It seemed as if they were looking at the landscape. At no time did the witness hear anything, but at one moment, when he tried to alert his co-workers in the lower floor, he found himself unable to move. He could only move his eyes. He claims not having felt any sense of despair or fear, and he stood up to the situation. He felt an increase in atmospheric pressure, and says his body was “pressured” and he felt dense – a situation that lasted until the object pulled away some 10 meters from where he worked. At that point he felt normalcy returning to the surroundings.

The object continued moving in a straight line and slowly. He managed to see that it lacked wings or other appendages. It was simply rectangular and nearly square around its base, which he calculated at some 3 meters tall. Mr. Godoy adds that he suffered no damage to his skin, body or mind. Aside from the momentary paralysis, he had no vision problems as a result of the experience. He figures that the entire experience lasted some 15 minutes from the start of the observation. He describes the experience as the most interesting he’s had in his life.

NAZCA – a tourist couple recorded an alleged UFO as they flew over the Nazca Lines in Ica on January 1, 2011.

The authors of the video, which was published on YouTube and already has over 100,000 visits, pointed out that the images were recorded from the window of a small Cessna aircraft.

Weather conditions were absolutely perfect, they said in the introduction to the uploeaded video. The later explained that the pilot asked them to get ready for turbulence.

“The airplane was engulfed in clouds and we kept recording,” they said, stating that they checked the recording once they’d returned to their hotel.

Upon viewing the material, they were startled to find that a dark, oval-shaped object was moving quickly through the clouds.
